"If anyone has any integrity concerns about Moving Companies in the Delray/Boca Raton Florida area stop here. You have just found Helping Hands Moving. My mother-in law recently past away in Boca Raton. My Wife and I are from Chicago IL and needed a mover to deliver all her belongings to us. As we searched for movers we heard many horror stories about the BIG NAME movers over promissing and under delivering, charging more $$ than agreed upon, not showing up on time, etc. So, I decided to personally meet each representative so that I could look them square in the eye in hopes of getting that "good gut feeling". Dennis was the 3rd of 5 to come in, he was one of the "small" local guys as the BIG National guys would say. My search stopped with Dennis at number 3 (I cancelled 4 & 5)!! Dennis came in, we did a walk around, he shot straight and was very confident in his abilities. He was VERY empathetic to our loss and sincerely wanted to help us out. We struck a deal right then and there, everything was black and white, NO GREY area!! Dennis and his employee loaded their truck on Thurday (in Boca), left Delray Friday 5AM and showed up at our home Saturday (a 23 hour trip) at 9AM! They unloaded in 3 hours, did a fantastic job cleanning up after themselves, even helped us move some furniture around (not part of the deal). WOW were we impressed!! I would highly recommend using Dennis and his TEAM over any of those "BIG National Companies". Do yourself a favor and hire Dennis over "ANY" other moving company PERIOD!! If you're feeling panicked about your upcoming move - take a deep breath and follow the below list. This is the stuff to do as soon as possible - get it out of the way and continue on with your move!
1). Moving Company
Do a little research and ask a ton of questions. Your moving company should be reliable with great reviews. Don't just go with the cheapest company - find one that offers a reasonable price and that you can trust.
2). Visit your Local Good Will:
If you have plenty of time you can have a garage sale, but if you're pressed for time, donate to those that need it! Don't bring things that you don't want on a move. Extra belongings equal time and money during the move.
3). Finding Boxes:
If you want to purchase boxes we recommend U-Haul. If you want them for free, try your local grocery stores and liquor stores. They have sturdy, durable boxes - generally with handles.
4). No More Food:
The last few days before the move you may find yourselves eating out - who has time to cook during a move anyways? Don't worry about it - stop going to the grocery store. Anything that you don't eat will be wasted anyways.
5). Stretch it Out:
Many people exhaust themselves by packing for an entire day. We recommend doing a little bit every night so that it doesn't feel so painful. Start with one room and work your way around the house.
6). Reserve the Elevator:
This is a huge thing - especially if you're hiring a moving company. If your move involves elevators, be sure to reserve them! Coordinate this with your movers to avoid any issues which may hold up your move.

Moving is a stressful time for parents, however it is equally as stressful for children. If you have finally sealed the deal on an upcoming move, it's time to work with your children on understanding why you are moving as well as how they can help so that they feel involved as well. Here are a few good tips for moving with children:
Have a Family Conference - Set a time and date and sit everybody down (most likely over dinner) to inform everybody of the plans. Explain why you are moving and how it will impact the entire family. This move, whether near or far, will impact your children so be sure to explain all of the details.
Show them the New Home - Once you have explained all of the details, give the kids a visual! Take them to the new home (if they haven't already seen it) and ask for their feedback. Allow them to feel like they are making decisions "Where would you want your bed?" "What color do you want your room?".
Cut the Clutter - This is a great time go purge and disregard anything that the kids don't need. Give them 2 bags - one for garbage and one for donations and let them sort through their belongings. Sometimes giving an incentive really works: "I know you like that new toy so if you can clear two bags filled with old toys we will have room for the new toy!". Many children also take pride in giving children in need some toys as well!
Organize a Yard Sale - Children love the idea of making money (whether it's a few dollars or a few hundred!). If your child is just learning the value of money, a yard sale is a great way for them to participate. They can set up their own table and sell their toys or belongings (of course, with the help of mom and dad).

There are basically 3 steps to moving - all of which may seem unpleasant to a family. The first step is packing.
This step, unfortunately, is the worst of the 3. It involves gathering all of your belongings, organizing them and packing them into a box. Helping Hands Moving recommends labeling each box with contents and a designated room (for example, kitchen). Packing is a service that can be done by yourself or you can hire a moving company that actually packs for you. If you are going to pack on your own, we recommend having a large supply of:
The second step of moving is the actual move. Most families hire a moving crew as moving is a tricky task. There is the process of loading it safely into a moving truck, driving the big truck to your final destination and unloading. In many cases, a move involves stairs which can be difficult as well. We recommend hiring a moving company that is fully licensed and insured which places protection on your furniture and valuables.
The third, and final step of moving is unpacking. Unpacking can be a fun task if you make it that way. Especially if you are organized prior to your move. Each box should be unloaded in it's designated "home".

We recommend planning your move at least 5 to 6 weeks in advance. This is for local moves, although long distance moves will require more planning which requires more time. Begin your search by looking up local moving companies in your area. Once you find a company that offers affordable pricing and rates, be sure to look into their reviews.
Now that you have your movers scheduled, you should make a "TO DO" list which should consist of everything - what to pack, the materials that you need (boxes, tape, etc), utilities for the new (and cancellation of the old) and anything else that you can think of.
Be sure to touch base with your moving company prior to your move to make sure that everything is still firm. This company should be licensed and insured and should also come with their own moving equipment such as hand trucks and dollies.
A professional moving crew will have licensing and insurance which is a necessity when handling your personal belongings.

If you've decided to move into a new apartment complex, remember, planning is key. Be sure to check out the development fully including surrounding areas. Once you have selected the right development for you and your family, then you should start planning the actual move.
Devise a detailed checklist and create a calendar to help your move go easily once you reach your designated moving day. Helping Hands recommends making a specific moving calendar that includes important dates, such as when to start and finalize your packing, as well as when to sign your lease and set up utility services for your new home.
We always recommend packing a "necessity" box which will include a few pots and pants, toilet paper and necessities. This is just in case your unpacking takes a few more days than you planned. Other helpful items to pack in the kit include a shower curtain and rings, paper towels, kitchen and bath towels, drinking water and a change of clothes.
Be sure that you get into your new apartment before the move for inspection. If it isn't cleaned to your standards, we recommend bringing a vacuum cleaner and other cleaning supplies to help before you move in your furniture and other items.

Don't stress about your upcoming move. Helping Hands Moving has hundreds of tips to help your family pack with ease and still have time for a family meal!
Necessity boxes - Each necessity box should be labeled clearly with it's contents and should be the first box that is loaded and unloaded from the moving truck/container, etc. Many people pack:
That way you have a day (or several) to rummage through your other boxes and you still have your necessities at hand.
Less Boxes - The first way to do this is to leave your clothes in the dresser. Ask your local moving company to tape or wrap the dresser so that the drawers are secured. If the dresser is to heavy and can't be taken with the drawers, remove the drawers and wrap them in shrink/plastic wrap to protect the belongings. Once you get to your final destination then all you have to do is unwrap each drawer and put it back into it's correct place.
Employ Elastic Bands - tied Elastic bands (rubber bands) can be tied around the hangers to prevent your clothes from slipping off. You can also use this method as an organizational tool by organizing your clothes: Pants, Shirts, Skirts, etc. As soon as you arrive to your final destination you can simply put them in the closet and move on to the next task!
Utilize Take Out - Why stress yourself out by cooking dinner while moving? Your pots and pans should be packed away so don't stress over dinner. Order in for your family and get back to packing and organizing! Give yourself a break and enjoy some family time during your upcoming move.
